Park City Announces Annual Spring Concert Series Lineup

Today, Park City announced the musical lineup for the 2016 Spring Concert Series and annual Spring Grüv Celebration. Free concerts will be held at both the Park City and Canyons Village Base areas on every Saturday beginning February 13 through April 10. Michael Franti & Spearhead, Dumpstaphunk and John Brown’s Body highlight this year’s Spring Grüv Lineup.

PARK CITY, Utah – Jan. 19, 2016 – Today, Park City announced the musical lineup for both the 2016 Spring Concert Series and the 9th Annual Spring Grüv Celebration. Michael Franti & Spearhead, Dumpstaphunk and John Brown’s Body will headline this year’s Spring Grüv Celebration which begins on Saturday, March 16. Separately, the Spring Concert Series will begin on Saturday, February 13 and features a mix of local and national musical acts that will perform in the Canyons Village and Park City Base Areas through April 10.  

“Spring concerts are an annual tradition at Park City, and we are thrilled to offer another outstanding lineup of performers this year,” said Davy Ratchford, director of marketing at Park City. “Park City is now the largest resort in the United States and both of our base areas offer amazing après ski activities to enjoy long after the lifts close. Our spring concerts provide yet another opportunity for guests to enjoy the winter season and make the most of their experience at Park City.”

As part of the Spring Concert Series, Park City will present free après ski concerts at both base areas every Saturday beginning February 13, weather permitting. This year’s concert lineup features a range of genres including folk, rock, and funk music along with local favorites Motherlode Canyon Band, Changing Lanes Experience and Muddpuddle. Guests can enjoy live music and après ski dining at the Umbrella Bar at Canyons Village or Legacy Lodge at the Park City Base Area. Concerts begin at 3 p.m.

In addition to the Spring Concert Series, the highly anticipated Spring Grüv Celebration is back for its ninth year with three free concerts. Funk band Dumpstaphunk will kick off the Spring Grüv concerts on March 18 followed by John Brown’s Body on March 19 and Michael Franti & Spearhead on March 26. Park City is extending this year’s Spring Grüv Celebration to span over 16 days beginning March 16 and will feature activities at both base areas in addition to music. A full activities schedule for the 2016 Spring Grüv Celebration, including the annual Pond Skimming competition, will be announced in February.

March 18 (Canyons Village at Park City) -
Dumpstaphunk 

Dumpstaphunk is a well-known group from New Orleans, showcasing the finest in groove, funk, and jazz melodies to create an upbeat and irresistible sound. Songs like “Dancin To The Truth” and “If I’m In Luck” offer a taste of the deep rhythms this group can produce.

March 19 (Canyons Village at Park City)-  John Brown's Body (Opener - Bryon Friedman & Friends)

John Brown’s Body is a contemporary American reggae band that steps outside the normal standards of the genre, incorporating elements of other beats to create a fresh sound anyone can enjoy. The band formed in Ithaca, NY in the 1990’s, and has since exploded their identity through experimentation of instruments and vocals. “Land Of Plenty Dub” and “Bread” are two hits that demonstrate the variety within their sound.

March 26 (Park City Base Area)- Michael Franti & Spearhead (Opener- Monophonics)

With 11 albums and countless hit singles, Michael Franti, with his band Michael Franti & Spearhead, will be on stage to perform their famously upbeat music. Their latest single “Once A Day” highlights the eclectic arrangements that are commonly found in their music. Other classics are “Say Hey (I Love You)” and “The Sound of Sunshine”. Often captured in their lyrics are the promotion of health, love, and well-being which engage the audience in a very energetic way.
