DEER VALLEY RESORT SPONSORS TWO-TIME OLYMPIC CHAMPION TED LIGETY

LIGETY TO BE DEER VALLEY'S GLOBAL ATHLETE AMBASSADOR

 

DEER VALLEY RESORT; PARK CITY, UTAH (June 23, 2016) – Deer Valley Resort is pleased to announce a partnership with decorated alpine skier, Ted Ligety. Ligety is a Park City, UT, resident, two-time Olympic champion and five-time World Champion. Effective immediately, Ligety will be the resort’s Global Athlete Ambassador.

The partnership was announced today during the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s Annual Partner Summit at the Center of Excellence in Park City.

Ligety grew up in Park City, UT, and at the age of 21, he shocked the world by becoming the youngest American Male to win an Olympic Gold medal in Alpine Skiing. He continued to dominate the men’s alpine circuit with five World Cup Overall GS titles and five World Championship titles. In 2013 Ligety became the first man in 45 years to win three events at the World Championships. The first alpine skier to achieve triple gold at a World Championship was none other than the legendary Stein Eriksen. Eriksen was Deer Valley’s director of skiing from the resort’s opening in 1981 to when he passed away in December of 2015.

In the 2014 Olympics Ligety won the first-ever men’s giant slalom gold medal for the USA securing his place in history as a legend in his sport.

We are thrilled that he has chosen to represent the resort in addition to skiing and training here.”

Deer Valley was a venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and has hosted two FIS Freestyle World Championships and 14 FIS Freestyle World Cups, making the resort a celebrated mecca for the international freestyle skiing community. Deer Valley will host their 15th FIS Freestyle World Cup in February 2017 and their third FIS Freestyle World Championship in winter of 2019.
