Snowbird Departure

*Operational Status*
The operational status of your tour cannot be confirmed until 4:00–6:00 PM the day prior to your reservation.

A typical Snowbird departure meets at 8:15 AM on the Tram Plaza at Entrance #2 (refer to the Snowbird Village Map). Look for your guide near the ski racks, just past the ticket windows. After introductions and a quick check-in, your guide will assign you a Gold Pass. Once ready, you'll board a pre-public tram and ascend 3,000 feet to Hidden Peak. There, you'll gather inside the Hidden Peak Lodge for the morning briefing, where you’ll review the day’s plans, including weather expectations, routes, avalanche conditions, and backcountry etiquette. Before heading out, you'll be equipped with an backpack, avalanceh probe, shovel and an avalanche transceiver and given a brief overview on how to use the beacon.

Traversing Catherines Passa

Your morning on skis will begin with a descent in Mineral Basin while we assess the snow conditions. Depending on conditions and the group’s preferences, we may kick off the day with a ridge hike up Mount Baldy as we work our way into Alta.

Once at Alta, you’ll head to the top of the Supreme chair, where you’ll begin your first significant sidestep, shuffle, and traverse through Catherine’s Pass, en route to your first backcountry zone of the day: Rocky Point. This area offers several stunning descents as you make your way down toward the base of Brighton Resort. This part of the tour is among the most physically demanding, with terrain ranging from 10,500 to 9,000 feet in elevation. You’ll encounter some bootpacking and sidestepping sessions as you progress toward Brighton.

Jay getting deep in Rocky Point

Once at Brighton, there are several terrain options, depending on snow conditions and timing before heading to Solitude via the lower SolBright trail, where a well-earned lunch break awaits (lunch is included with your reservation).

After lunch, you'll ride the Summit chair to the top of Solitude Resort. Once there, the guides will check in with Solitude Ski Patrol before embarking on an exciting out-of-bounds traverse, sidestepping across the "Highway to Heaven" toward the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, also known as Twin Lakes Pass. A long backcountry descent will bring you to the upper base of Alta Ski Area. From there, you'll ascend the Sugarloaf chair and pass through the Mineral Basin gate, arriving at Snowbird, the final resort of the day.

But don't worry—there's still plenty of skiing left! You’ll descend Mineral Basin and ride the Mineral Basin Express chairlift to 11,000 feet atop Hidden Peak at Snowbird. From there, you have several descent options, each offering a 3,000-foot drop to the base of Snowbird.
