When the sun goes down, things get wild in Utah. People and animals hit the trails searching for adventure. From snowshoeing to curling to fine dining, there is plenty to do under the moonlight here in Utah.

Full Moon Dining at Snowbird

Many have experienced the awe of riding Snowbird world-famous trams to the summit at Hidden Peak, but few have done it at night. View Little Cottonwood Canyon in a different light — moonlight — during one of the resort’s Full Moon Dinners. More than lunar amusement, it’s a smorgasbord, literally and figuratively. Following your tram ride up Peruvian Gulch, a gourmet, all-you-can-eat dining experience awaits at the Summit Restaurant. With communal seating, solo travelers, couples and groups will enjoy the company, conversation and 360-degree view at 11,000 feet above sea level. The price is $150 per person, including the tram, dinner, tax, and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Nordic Nights at Solitude

Deep inside Big Cottonwood Canyon, between Brighton andSolitude Mountain Resort Resorts, lies the Solitude Nordic Center. (Yes, you’ve probably driven right by it dozens of times.) This hidden gem is the canyon’s best venue to learn classic and skate skiing during the day, and it is a terrific place to trek out on snowshoes at night. On select evenings throughout the winter ski season, the Nordic Center hosts Nordic Nights, where friends and families can ski, skate, snowshoe or just hang out and swap stories around the campfire. S’mores and hot cocoa round out a perfectly hygge-filled evening.

Snowshoeing and animal tracking events are also scheduled through winter on the Wasatch Back at Wasatch State Park in Midway.

Mount Timpanogos is stunning by day. It’s even more captivating under a moonlit sky. Hear the crisp crunching underfoot and the muffled hooting of great horned owls above, and you’ll think of Sundance Mountain Resort as a round-the-clock as well as year-round resort. Enjoy Night Owling on selected dates throughout the winter season, guides from Great Basin Wildlife Rescue will take small groups on snowshoe walks from 6:30–8:30PM to learn more about these ancient Strigiformes and other nocturnal creatures. Prices are $75 per person and include equipment rentals.
