Escape the hustle and bustle and retreat to Snowbasin, a place to wind down, connect, and enjoy every season. Not far away, but away from it all, Snowbasin awaits...
Why Snowbasin?
Skiers, snowboarders, and Olympians have been flocking to Snowbasin Resort since the 1940s. The rich history of this beloved mountain matches the delight skiers and snowboarders feel when racing down the resort’s storied slopes or learning to make their first turns with the Snowbasin Snow Sports School.
Welcome to Snowbasin
A journey to Snowbasin couldn’t be simpler for travelers and locals alike. In fact, the resort won Ski Magazine’s 2019 Access Award! At just 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport or one hour from Park City, Snowbasin is not far away but well away from it all. Enjoy a scenic drive through Weber Canyon and witness the shifting scenes of rivers, mountains, and foothills before the gentle climb above Ogden Valley. Traffic is seldom an issue and there are no gnarly mountain passes to traverse so Ski Magazine's Access Award rightly honors the ease of arrival at Snowbasin.
Snowbasin's Terrain
As you approach Snowbasin, the view unfolds, revealing six soaring peaks, airy alpine bowls, and its world-famous slopes. The mountain encompasses over 3,000 acres and a 3,000-foot vertical drop serviced by high-speed quads and comfortable gondolas. For families and ski buddies, navigation around Snowbasin is a cinch. The slopes near Earl's Lodge have recently been reconfigured to improve the Learning Center. This beginner’s terrain features a gentle 11% slope alongside the Grizzly and Wildflower magic carpets. Learners or kiddos in lessons will never be far from hot cocoa, Snowbasin's luxurious washrooms, or a crackling fire.
Further up the mountain novice and expert skiers will discover glades, swooping groomers, bowls glimmering with powder snow, steeps, and stunning views. Ample dining opportunities exist across the whole mountain and it’s easy for groups or families to meet up for lunch or a snack. Snowbasin’s hospitality and luxurious style help diners relax and enjoy their escape in Ogden Valley. Don’t miss The Overlook, a new full-service bar at 8,700 feet in elevation in the Needles Lodge.
The Basin's Deep Roots
As you ski or shred around Snowbasin, it’s not hard to sense its deeply rooted heritage. Snowbasin celebrates its 80th anniversary in the 2020–2021 ski season. The origin of the resort harks back to a legacy of conservation when local groups in the 30’s decided to halt environmental destruction, repair the damaged watershed, and create a place where people could gather, recreate, and enjoy the outdoors together. Snowbasin was officially dedicated as the “Snow Basin Winter Playground” by the mayor of Ogden on November 27, 1940. Catch the full Snowbasin history over here.
Powder skiing pioneer and Norwegian skiing champion, Alf Engen, was instrumental in planning and cutting some of Snowbasin’s original runs back in the 1940s. It remains a jewel in Utah’s treasure trove of powder skiing destinations. In 2002, the resort hosted Winter Olympic athletes from all across the world. In fact, you too can test your mettle on the world famous Grizzly and Wildflower Olympic downhill courses, accessible via the unique Allen Peak Tram, one of only two jib-back trams in America! The loft terrain at the top of Snowbasin resort encompasses huge, open bowls and endless powder runs.
