A self-described jack of all trades, master of a few – Don is a musician, former DI football player, reader and writer, nonprofit fundraiser, professional oyster shucker, skier, bartender and mountain biker. Born in California on a family vacation (a story for another time), Don identifies as a New Englander, and his passion for chasing The Greatest Snow on Earth® is rivaled only by his love for Fenway Park, commercial shellfish farming and jam bands.
While not all who wander are lost, it would appear he might have been: stopping for extended stints in Connecticut, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York (where he learned to ski at age 4) and Louisiana. He fell in love with skiing beneath the iconic single chair at Mad River Glen, Vermont – and if you ask him about it, he’ll probably reply with the co-op’s brash mantra: Ski It If You Can!
All’s well that ends well, though. He has a tattoo of the Utah Route 210 road sign on his right leg, and Utah is now his home. He’ll tell you that he’s never had a bad day of skiing or biking in Utah and that he feels like the luckiest guy in the world to live in the Beehive State – and he’ll mean that with his whole heart.
Don is a full-time fundraising leader for the local nonprofit Wasatch Adaptive Sports (WAS) of Snowbird and an outspoken advocate for Utahns with adaptive needs on a mission to share the outdoor sports he loves with all people of all abilities.
You’re likely to find Don putting in the first tracks on Wilbere Bowl or pedaling up to the top of Bobsled (sometimes on the same day), reading, writing, or picking on a guitar, jumping into oceans and alpine lakes, listening to the music at his favorite Utah ski bars and concert venues, or quoting his favorite books, song lyrics, or movie lines to no one in particular – and occasionally composing run-on sentences.
